"The K. P. and the Top Sergeant"
Once there was a Private who said to the Top Sergeant, “Please sir, I would like K. P. for today,” whereupon the Sergeant, being an old army regular who’d seen service on the border with Blackjack Pershing, in France, at Bataan and Tunisia said, “Well, now I’ve seen everything, “ he was so amazed. So he said to the Private, “Why do you want to be on K. P.” and the Private replied “Because, sire, I like to help mamma at home, and I don’t want to forget anything my dear old mamma taught me?”
And the moral of this fable is never let a soldier in your command forget the lessons he learned from his deal old mama.
